Buying a Rock Climbing Harness

Rock climbing harnesses are sold online and at most sporting goods stores. There are a few things to look for when shopping for the right harness.

Make sure the rock climbing harness fits properly. If it is too tight or too loose, it will not protect a person from falling. A harness is a safety device. It is used if someone can not grab onto a rope or falls. The harness keeps them protected to the safety cord at all times. If a harness is not fitted properly, a person could fall out of it. This could lead to serious injury or even death if the person falls from a great height.

The rock climbing harness should have new buckles on it and should have any tears or stress points. Do not buy a harness that appears used. It could be torn somewhere which could rip if too much weight is added on it. Harness are usually made of nylon fabric or a combination. It can tear if enough pressure is put on it. Always buy a new harness, do not borrow someone else's.

Take the new rock climbing harness to a rock climbing wall and try it out there. A rock wall simulates a real rock face. Try the harness out to see it if works. Always try out new equipment after purchasing it. This will make a person feel more comfortable and they will notice any problems before taking it out on a real climb. First time rock climbers should definitely test out all equipment. Go with someone who climbs. They can tell if the equipment is safe or not. A harness can save lives but they must be worn properly. Harness should be stored in a cool area away from water or heat. Rock climbing harnesses that have been exposed to water damage should be thrown away. Buy a new rock climbing harness for safety purposes.
